Purpose: The Community Room at the Academy Building on the Newby School Campus in Mooresville was dedicated to the exemplary work of Emily Carolyn Mills.

History: Emily Carolyn Mills was an active community leader devoted to education, community service and the concern of others. In her volunteer efforts on the boards of the Community Foundation of Morgan County, the Morgan County Foundation, the Morgan County Agricultural Extension Service, among many other groups and organizations Mills was a dedicated leader.

The Academy Building, which sits on the Newby Memorial Elementary School campus has been restored and is listed on the National Historic Register. Later the building was deeded to the community and became Indiana's only privately funded school building that was open to public education. The building now serves as a local history museum, the Academy of Hoosier Heritage, which includes a pioneer classroom setup.
