Each scholarship has its own distinct selection criteria, such as financial need, special interest/intended study or GPA requirement. No two scholarships are alike, so please review all the details in order to determine which scholarships best fit your situation.

Community Foundation of Morgan County Scholarship Program  

 

   The Community Foundation of Morgan County, Inc. offers Morgan County residents the opportunity to be awarded scholarships based on selection criteria requested by the donor.


   Bob Staggs Memorial Scholarship: Provides an educational scholarship who are accepted into and attend accredited two- or four-year public or private institutions of higher learning or technical or trade schools. A student exhibiting good character, respect of others, and good citizenship in their sports activities and within school. Involved in sports activities in school or assisting as part of the support team, such as student managers. The scholarship shall be awarded each year to one graduating senior from Martinsville High School. Applicants should have a 2.5 or higher GPA on a 4-point scale. Applicants must be interested in a career in sports broadcasting, sports marketing or sports medicine and explain their interest and goals in an essay added to the essay questions requested in the general application. Applicants must provide three letters of reference: one from a coach, one from a church leader such as a youth minister or pastor, and one from either a broadcaster or leader of a community organization they work with or someone on the staff or faculty of their school.Applications Page

   Dorothy Asher Scholarship: Provides scholarships for Morgan County residents of any age attending an accredited two- or four-year public or private institution of higher education and are studying elementary education. Recipients must agree to attempt to obtain employment, if available, in Morgan County, Indiana for at least one year upon completion of their education. Scholarships may be awarded annually to the same recipient if the foundation deems this appropriate for the progress the student may make. Applications Page

   [NEW] The 2012 Special Benjamin Elo Memorial Scholarship: Since 2012 would have been Ben’s year of graduation, this is a one-time $5,000 scholarship to be given for students graduating from Indiana with the Class of 2012. It provides a scholarship to a graduating senior from Indiana who knew Ben personally during his short life and whose life has been changed by that friendship. In addition, the student must have a 3.0 or higher GPA on a 4-point scale and will be attending a four-year accredited public or private educational institution. Applicant must exhibit good citizenship, be involved in their church and be involved in community service organizations and activities. Applicants must provide three letters of reference: one from their pastor, one from a leader of a community organization that they are actively involved in and someone on the staff or faculty at school. Applicants must also write an additional essay of 500 words or less on: How knowing Ben Elo affected or changed their life. ***Applicants for this scholarship need to use a special application form which can be downloaded from the CFMC website or mailed upon request***Applications Page

   SSG Wm. Ryan Fritsche Memorial Scholarship: Providing scholarships to one or more graduating seniors from any Morgan County High School who are accepted into an accredited 2 or 4 year public or private institution.  Applicants should have a 2.5 GPA or higher (on a 4.0 scale).  Applicants must supply three letters of reference: Two from school personnel and one from an outside source, i.e., an employer, pastor, etc.  Students should be applying for or in a course of study leading to public service work, such as: law enforcement, medical work, social work, child services, etc.  In addition to the CFMC essay questions on the standard applications, applicants must complete a 500-750 word essay with the following quote from J.F. Kennedy as the main theme of the piece: And so my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country." (J.F. Kennedy, Inaugural Speech, January 20, 1961) As funds are available, the scholarship may be open to applicants who live in Morgan County and are in their first or second year of college.  Applications Page

     Maggie Grounds Scholarship:  Providing scholarships to a female high school senior entering the field of architecture, contracting/building engineering, traditional drafting, architectural computer-aided design, or another very closely-related study, pharmacy, nursing, in an accredited institution of higher education.     Ann Haworth Scholarship:  Providing annual scholarship awarded to an outstanding Martinsville High School student who is ranked in the upper one-fourth of the graduating class and who plans to attend an accredited college or university.  The recipient must have participated in the Martinsville High School orchestra and/or choir during grades 10 through 12.   Newburn-Asher Scholarship: Provides scholarships for Morgan County residents of any age attending an accredited two- or four-year public or private institution of higher education and are studying in the health care field. Recipients must agree to attempt to obtain employment, if available, in Morgan County, Indiana for at least one year upon completion of their education. Scholarships may be awarded annually to the same recipient if the foundation deems this appropriate for the progress the student may make. Applications Page

   Henry E. Pearcy, Sr., Memorial Scholarship:  Providing a reimbursement scholarship each spring to a graduating senior from Martinsville High School who has maintained at least a B average, who has demonstrated leadership ability, and who will be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in education.  Preference will be given to applicants who attended Central Elementary School in Martinsville.     Sergeant Dan Starnes Memorial Scholarship:  Providing scholarships for Morgan County residents to study law enforcement. Applications Page

    

   Robert D. St. Clair Memorial Scholarship:  Providing scholarships for students graduating from Martinsville High School with a GPA of at least 3.0, demonstrating good character and financial need, and attending a 2- to 4-year program at a vocational/technical school or at an accredited college or university.    Virgil Telfer Memorial Scholarship:  Providing a scholarship for worthy agriculture students of Martinsville High School wishing to enroll in an agricultural or related vocational school to pursue a career in the field of agriculture.  The recipient shall be a graduating Martinsville High School senior who has completed three years of agriculture and has been an active FFA member; and must be of high moral character, exhibit leadership ability, and exhibit a tendency for service to his or her fellow students, church, and community. Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program  


   The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program offers two full-tuition scholarships for Morgan County who will have graduated by the end of June, 2012 with a diploma from a regionally accredited Indiana high school and who will be first time college students.

   Since the Lilly Endowment Scholarship Program was first offered in 1998, Lilly remains steadfast in its belief that education at all levels is indispensable to the personal, civic, and economic well being of our community. These scholarships must be used to pursue baccalaureate degrees at any accredited public or private Indiana college or university beginning in the fall of 2012. The Endowment hopes that this program will encourage many of Indiana’s most talented students to attend one of Indiana’s fine higher education institutions and after graduation, consider pursuing occupations in Indiana.

   Morgan County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship weighted selection criteria is as follows: academic performance, 30%; financial need, 20%; school/community activities and/or work experience, 20%; essay, 15%; interview, 10%; personal characteristics, 5%. 

   Please note that the deadline for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship application has passed. Please check back in November of 2012 for opportunities for fall 2013 scholarships.

Kendrick Foundation, Inc. Scholarships  

 

  The Kendrick Foundation, Inc. Scholarships will provide support for Morgan County residents who are pursuing a career in the health care field. The scholarships are for tuition only, up to a maximum of $15,000 per person per year after deducting other financial aid which also pays tuition. The program is open to all Morgan County, Indiana residents:

    • Who have graduated by the end of June, 2012, with a diploma from an Indiana high school or an equivalent education
    • Who have been accepted into a program at an accredited college, university, or other educational institution to complete a course of study in a health care field (including medicine, dentistry, allied health, and nursing) beginning in the fall of 2012. Note: If your desired degree program has a late acceptance date, go ahead and apply for the Kendrick Scholarship and note "acceptance pending."

      Note: Acceptance into a pre-program such as pre-med or pre-pharmacy
      does not qualify for this scholarship program.

   The scholarship recipients are completely free to choose which educational institution they would like to attend, with preference being given to candidates who will attend Indiana schools.
